BMV Expert Dialogue at Spedition Duwensee
On November 24th, 2025, a BMV Expert Dialogue on "Climate-Friendly Commercial Vehicles in Practice" took place at Spedition Duwensee in Heusenstamm. The event provided a unique opportunity to experience firsthand the practical implementation of fleet electrification at a freight forwarding company.

Spedition Duwensee Shares Its Electrification Strategy

Spedition Duwensee presented its comprehensive strategy for electrifying its fleet. The company has set a goal to convert one-third of its truck fleet to electric drive by 2030. Already today, the company operates three electric vehicles: a Mercedes-Benz eActros 300 (400 km range), an eActros 600 (500 km range), and a Mitsubishi eCanter (150 km range). The practical results are impressive: In just 18 weeks, the three vehicles already saved 34.5 tons of CO₂ emissions. A total of over 66,000 kilometers were driven electrically. The company confirmed that e-trucks are already deployable today, particularly in standardized routes. The manufacturers' stated ranges correspond to practice.

Charging Infrastructure in Three Expansion Stages

Particularly valuable were the insights into the charging infrastructure setup. Duwensee plans a three-stage development: The first stage includes a 400kW Hypercharger with two charging points and a mobile 40kW charger. In further stages, the infrastructure is to be expanded to eight parallel charging points, supplemented by a PV system with battery storage for green self-generated electricity.

Framework Conditions and Funding Programs

Dr. Hendrik Haßheider from the Federal Ministry of Transport presented the overall concept for climate-friendly commercial vehicles. The federal funding program has already provided 883 million euros in funding for over 6,000 vehicles and more than 1,000 charging infrastructure sites. In addition, the planned truck fast-charging network with 4,200 MCS and CCS charging points along federal highways was presented. The "Strom bewegt" state initiative of LEA Hessen presented its support services for companies, including eCoach consulting for fleet conversion and LIS consulting for building charging infrastructure.

Exchange and Perspectives

The event provided space for intensive exchange of experiences between freight forwarders, manufacturers, technology providers, and political decision-makers. Fenexity was present as a participant and was able to gain valuable insights into the practical challenges and solutions in electrifying logistics fleets. The experiences of Spedition Duwensee impressively demonstrate that the electrification of commercial vehicle fleets is already feasible today and offers both ecological and economic advantages. The main factors for economic viability are toll exemption, funding, and reliable charging infrastructure. Further discussions on the future of sustainable logistics can be found in our article on NextTruck 2025.
